Year of the Horse

The Year of the Horse

| Print | |  E-mail

The 2010 - 2011 year will be a year focused on teamwork.  During the Year of the Horse, ELM’s students, teachers, parents, administration and support staff will work together to help our students achieve measurable academic improvement and meaningful personal growth, as they become life-long learners and responsible global citizens.

This year, we will focus on teamwork, and you will see:

  • Teachers who are knowledgeable about the latest teaching methodologies and who have proven track records in delivering challenging, student-centered courses.
  • You will see teachers lecturing less and providing more group work and hands-on learning opportunities, including activities that promote interaction between grade levels.
  • A distinct 6-9 middle school that will have a more age-appropriate schedule and programs that have been proven successful for young adolescents. The schedule will include rotational exploratory opportunities in areas such as advanced technology, study skills, and a variety of fine arts classes.
  • More student support by teachers who differentiate in the classroom, and more team planning among our teaching staff in order to reach both the lowest and highest students. This has been demonstrated in the past 10 years by top schools in the U.S. Multi-grade planning will provide more fluidity in order to meet each student’s needs.
  • A differentiated approach to our Early Childhood Education Program that offers three distinct and separate levels.
  • A school-wide focus on reading!
