Technology
ELM’s Computer Lab serves students from Early Childhood Education through the Upper School grades. Currently it is equipped with 16 PC's, (Eight of which are state of the art and where donated last year by Schlumberger.) an LP projector, a network laser printer, and three support computers. We strive to integrate technology in the maximum appropriate manner into the regular classroom subject areas.
Computer skills are taught in conjunction with classroom assignments so that students are using the tool and skills to produce pieces that demonstrate their learning across all subject areas. The curricula is based on real world project based learning, which includes yearbook, school newsletter, school calendar, typing skills, along with common computer applications.
The ELM campus is wireless, and students are invited to bring in and use their own laptop computers provided they are logged on to our school network.
One of the Target Areas identified for Improvement at ELM is:
- Technology Education
Goal: ELM students will improve their typing speed, and learn to use common computer software.
Targeted Students: Early Childhood Education – Mouse and Computer Hardware, Lower School – Keyboarding, Upper School – Computer Software and Networking
The school is equipped with an up-to-date computer lab with a total of 13 work stations.
Techonlogy class in Pre-kinder, kindergarten and first grade are aimed at reviewing content of other subjects such as Mathematics and Reading while familiarizing students with the computer.
In second grade through to fifth grade students begin using word processors and design programs. In Middle School students learn to use spreadsheets, in addition to working with word processors. They also work on various graphic design projects.
